Mainzeal directors defend role in firm's demise

From Morning Report, 7:49 am on 20 September 2018

The lawyer for Dame Jenny Shipley and three other directors of a failed construction firm says it's impossible to say if the company's collapse would have been any less disastrous if it had happened earlier. Mainzeal Property and Construction is being sued for $75 million after it collapsed in 2013 owing creditors more than $115 million. Lawyers for the liquidators and creditors claim the directors, including the former prime minister, should have known Mainzeal was about to fail yet they continued to take on large construction contracts.
