Bank closures devastating for small centres - locals

Australian-owned banks are under fire for abandoning New Zealand rural centres. Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones said on Morning Report yesterday the banks are putting profits ahead of their responsibilities. Martinborough, in Wairarapa, is one of the towns facing losing its last bank branch. The BNZ shut up shop last year, and the ANZ is now proposing to do the same.
