Plan to save racing industry long overdue - racing judge

From Morning Report, 6:09 am on 31 August 2018

There'll be no more days at the races in Stratford and Hawera under a radical plan to save the dying industry. The two Taranaki towns are among 20 around the country slated to lose their race courses because they cost too much to run. A government-commissioned report also says the TAB should be outsourced to an international operator because the New Zealand market is too small. Ron Stanley is on the board of the Taranaki Thoroughbred Racing Club as well as being a race day judge. He told reporter Craig McCulloch the plan is a brave one that is years overdue.
