Auckland Council resource consent bungle 'a huge pain' - lawyer

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 30 August 2018

A lawyer isn't surprised by Auckland Council bungling hundreds of resource consents because, she says, the city's planning rules are so complicated. The council is contacting 430 property owners to tell them they will need to get new consents for renovation or alteration work. The affected properties are in suburbs like Grey Lynn and Ponsonby, where special character rules apply. Lawyer Nicky McIndoe told RNZ reporter Sarah Robson it means some owners are technically in breach of the planning rules RMA through no fault of their own.
