Is Australian leadership spill good for NZ detainees?

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 22 August 2018

An Australian immigration lawyer says New Zealanders detained in Australia may have a window of opportunity to stay now that Peter Dutton has resigned. Mr Dutton stepped down on Tuesday from his ministerial portfolios, including immigration, after unsuccessfully trying to roll Malcolm Turnbull as Prime Minister. He has been the face of Australia's hardline stance on immigration since 2014. There are 169 New Zealanders being held in Australian detention centres. Lawyer Greg Barns told RNZ reporter Kate Gudsell that Peter Dutton has inflicted enormous cruelty on New Zealanders and other non-citizens over the past few years.
