Giant sinkhole opens up in suburban Taupō

A burst water pipe in Taupō has caused a 10-metre wide sinkhole that engulfed part of a street. Taupō teenager Jono Park and his mate, Bailey Malloy, were first on the scene and were quick to alert the authorities to the potential hazard. They were enjoying a bike ride home on Saturday evening when they heard the sound of rushing water and felt the ground moving. Jono, Bailey and Jono's mum, Taupō District Councillor Anna Park talk to Guyon Espiner. The boys explain how they came across the burst pipe.
