From Morning Report, 7:41 am on 1 August 2018

Up to 40 New Zealand firefighters are heading to northern California to help fight a wildfire that has already claimed six lives. They'll be joining 3,600 firefighters who are currently battling to contain what is now one of the most destructive wildfires in California's history. Redding Police Chief Roger Moore, whose own home was destroyed in the fires, describes the intense conditions. Fire and Emergency New Zealand's national manager for rural operations, John Rasmussen, is in our Wellington studio.
