Wellington Matariki fireworks may be stalled by whale visit
Wellington City Council is mulling over whether its Matariki fireworks display should be postponed due to an unexpected marine manuhiri. It is the first time in eight years a southern right whale has visited the harbour and it is putting on a great show for locals. But there are concerns that the fireworks show could cause the whale some distress. Richard Maclean is a Wellington City Council spokesperson. He tells Gyles Beckford they're hoping the whale has headed off to the Marlborough Sounds.
