Truckers to fuel up outside Auckland as tax begins

From Morning Report, 6:13 am on 2 July 2018

Trucking companies say they'e unlikely to refuel in Auckland anymore with the regional fuel tax now added at the pump. The tax came into effect yesterday, adding 11-and-a-half-cents a litre on fuel sold in Auckland to help pay for transport projects. RNZ is aware of at least one company telling its truck drivers to avoid refuelling in the city and instead do so in truck stops in the likes of Hamilton, Dargaville and Te Kuiti. The head of the National Road Carriers Association, David Aitken, told RNZ reporter Tom Furley that should come as no surprise.
