What's the future of the Waioeka Gorge road?

There are growing calls from civic leaders and businesses for a permanent solution to the fragile road linking Gisborne and Opotiki. State Highway 2 through the Waioeka Gorge is regularly closed because of slips. Contractors are still working to clear a big slip that came down at the weekend. Yesterday Richard Burke from Leaderbrand Gisborne told Morning Report every time the road gets closed an extra five hours is added to the journey time for his company's trucks .
