Painkillers behind hundreds of past deaths at UK hospital

From Morning Report, 6:15 am on 21 June 2018

More than 450 patients died at a British hospital between 1989 and 2000 after being given powerful painkillers without medical justification. An independent panel said, taking into account missing records, a further 200 patients may have suffered a similar fate. The investigation found there was a "disregard for human life" of a large number of patients. Former Bishop of Liverpool James Jones who led the Gosport Independent Panel, spoke to the media a few hours ago. London correspondent Catherine Drew tells us the victims were not near the end of life, but people as young as in their 60s.
