Farmers threaten to sue over debris, forestry boss responds

Farmers are threatening legal action against forestry companies following what they say is millions of dollars damage caused by slash. The slash - or offcuts from forestry harvesting - washed down from forestry plots and blocked rivers and damaged farms in Tolaga Bay during another week of heavy rain in Gisborne. Forestry Minister Shane Jones told Morning Report he isn't prepared to apportion any blame for the damage until an inquiry had been done by a newly appointed forestry advisory group.
