Building owners mull legal action over Grenfell-style cladding
June 14 marks a year to the day since a deadly blaze at the 24-storey Grenfell tower block in London, in which 72 people died. The Auckland Council has confirmed 116 buildings in the city use a similar type of cladding to Grenfell, and at least 25 of those buildings use combustible cladding. Wellington City Council also confirmed they found buildings with the cladding, but could not say how many had combustible panels. Now, insurers are gearing up to re-assess the risk to those properties, and building owners are contemplating legal action.
