Govt considers new speed cameras on roads

From Morning Report, 8:55 am on 14 May 2018

The government's looking at introducing point-to-point speed cameras, saying overseas experience suggests they help reduce crash rates. Unlike standard speed cameras, which record the speed of vehicles as they pass by, point-to-point cameras record vehicles as they enter then leave a stretch of road and calculate their average speed. Associate Transport Minister Julie Anne Genter is considering introducing the cameras for a trial. But the editor of the Dog and Lemon Guide, Clive Matthew Wilson, says it would be a backwards step.
