Paid parental leave review 'this term' - Lees-Galloway

From Morning Report, 7:35 am on 14 May 2018

Workplace Relations Iain Lees-Galloway has confirmed a review into paid parental leave will consider an extension to the period and possibly a partner-specific payment. It's been revealed only about one percent of people taking up the government's $325-million deal are fathers. Official data shows on average women earn between nine percent and 16 percent less than men in this country, and the gap is even wider for women with children. Mr Lees-Galloway says he agrees there is an economic incentive for women to be the primary caregiver due to the gender wage gap, but he says it's also about societal perceptions. He tells Guyon Espiner that there's only so much that he can change with legislation.
