Train derailment proves need for onboard staff - Butson

The rail union says the Britomart derailment is an important case study of why onboard train staff are crucial for public safety. Earlier this year, the Rail and Maritime Transport Union successfully bargained to keep onboard train staff, after Transdev and Auckland Transport were looking to operate driver-only trains. Wayne Butson is the Rail and Maritime Transport Union's secretary. He tells Guyon Espiner says it's a "classic illustration" of the need for onboard staff.
