Govt considered walking away from America's Cup

From Morning Report, 7:37 am on 9 May 2018

It's been revealed the government was advised it could walk away from it's deal to fund the America's Cup village when final negotiations started to run into trouble. Papers given to RNZ also reveal that David Parker suggested an Auckland Council agency had ulterior motives, in making a proposal that he favoured appear too expensive. The government, the council and Team New Zealand did agree on a $212 million deal to host the event in 2021, but the material sought by RNZ reveals some of the goings on behind the scenes. RNZ Auckland correspondent Todd Niall has been looking through the material.
