Teachers start talks for 16% pay rise
The first shots in what teachers were told last year would be the industrial battle of their lives will be fired today with the start of primary teachers' pay talks. The union is seeking a 16 percent pay rise spread over two years and says a pay jolt of that scale combined with improved workloads will help solve the critical shortage of teachers. RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen has been talking to teachers about the claim.
