Consents for buildings high, construction confidence low

From Morning Report, 8:46 am on 2 May 2018

Latest official figures show another strong rise in the number of building consents being issued. A surge in apartment consents helped push the total number of consents in March to 2926, up 5.3 percent from the same month a year ago. In Auckland there were 1082 consents issued - a rise of 14.9 percent. But ASB says the growth is unlikely be sustained because the construction industry is reaching peak capacity. The bank's chief economist is Nick Tuffley.
