Family Court report results 'known for years' - lawyer

From Morning Report, 8:55 am on 1 May 2018

Family Court staff are stressed and struggling to deal with a growing workload, family lawyers are quitting and parents can't get decent legal advice. That's the finding of a new report, commissioned by the Ministry of Justice, which backs up what critics have been saying for years -- the system doesn't work. And that's despite changes in 2014 designed to make the court more user-friendly. The Justice Minister Andrew Little's already announced a review of those changes. Michelle Duggan is a family court lawyer working in Nelson. She tells Susie Ferguson the report's findings were a relief.
