Woman's benefit cut after Tinder date, MSD apologises

From Morning Report, 6:44 am on 24 April 2018

The Ministry of Social Development says it doesn't make a habit of cutting people's benefits off, before they've investigated allegations they've been cheating the system. A solo mother in south Auckland had her payments stopped and was wrongly told it was because she went on two Tinder dates. But her case manager said nothing about any allegations she had been cheating the system - which weren't able to be substantiated. Kay Read from the Ministry of Social Development told RNZ social issues reporter Sarah Robson it was a one-off mistake.
