Waitangi Tribunal slams Crown over Whakatōhea deal

The Crown has again been accused of rushing to finalise Treaty settlements at the expense of giving iwi a fair hearing. In a decision released this week, the Waitangi Tribunal found the Crown breached the Treaty of Waitangi by negotiating a $100 million deal with a group that didn't have the backing of the whole iwi.
