Raul Castro to be succeeded by technocrat in Cuba

From Morning Report, 7:46 am on 19 April 2018

For the first time since Cuba's revolution in 1959, the country is set to be led by someone who is not a Castro. Fidel Castro was in charge for 32 years until his brother Raul took over as president in 2008. Now the 86-year-old Raul Castro is standing down and despite some predictions, there won't be a Castro family dynasty. Alina Balseiro announced to the Cuban parliament that the sole candidate to succeed President Castro is the 57-year-old Vice President, Miguel Diaz Canel. Miami's director of the Cuban Studies Institute, Professor Jaime Suchlicki, explains the implications.
