Ardern optimistic about EU trade after Merkel meeting

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's confidence of a future trade-deal with the EU has been boosted by talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The leaders discussed a range of issues - including last week's US-led airstrikes in Syria - during their first meeting in Berlin, which wrapped up late on Tuesday night. After the meeting, Ms Ardern remarked on the alignment of Germany and New Zealand when it came to approaching diplomatic issues.
