Taranaki seabed mining appeal kicks off in High Court

From Morning Report, 8:28 am on 17 April 2018

Last year New Zealand's first ever consent for seabed mining was granted to Trans Tasman Resources. The company is now authorised to dig up a patch of the ocean floor off the coast of South Taranaki for iron ore - though it's still years away from actually beginning the process. Yesterday seven groups including Taranaki iwi, Greenpeace, Fisheries Inshore New Zealand, and Kiwis Against Seabed Mining began an appeal against that consent at the High Court in Wellington. Kiwis Against Seabed Mining chair Cindy Baxter joins us to discuss her plans.
