Govt moves to clamp down on wheel clampers

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 17 April 2018

The Transport Minister has called parking enforcement services who use wheel clamps "bottom-feeders" and says the government is working on legislation to ban or regulate them. Phil Twyford and Consumer Affairs Minister Kris Faafoi are exploring ways to curb the predatory behaviour.

At the moment there is no limit to what someone can charge for removing a clamp from the wheel of a car parked on private property, as the industry operates under a voluntary code of conduct.

Kris Faafoi tells Susie Ferguson what the plans are.
