Lyttelton Port tensions rise over pay

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 12 April 2018

Tensions between the Lyttelton Port Company and the port-workers' union have escalated with almost 200 staff set to be locked out later this month when 11 colleagues go on strike. The 11 workers operate the boats that take pilots out to incoming ships and the company says the four-day strike from April 26 means the port has to close. Chief executive Peter Davie says as a result none of the 191 union members will get paid during that time. The dispute over pay and rosters has been going on since early last month and has shut the port once already. The South Island spokesperson for the Rail and Maritime Transport Union is John Kerr. He discusses the dispute with Guyon Espiner.
