Lyttelton Port workers to strike, unpaid

From Morning Report, 6:17 am on 12 April 2018

Nearly 200 union members working at the Port of Lyttelton won't get paid for four days when just 11 members go on strike later this month. The Rail and Maritime Transport Union and the port company have been in a month-long dispute over pay and rosters. Eleven staff who operate the boats that take pilots out to incoming ships will strike from April 26. Chief executive Peter Davie says none of the union's 191 members will be paid for the strike days because, without pilots, ships cannot get into port.
