NZ sixth in Commonwealth Games medal tally

From Morning Report, 7:27 am on 9 April 2018

While the Silver Ferns' surprise loss was the big New Zealand failure at the Games yesterday, there were successes too. Lawn bowler Jo Edwards won New Zealand's fourth gold of the games when she defended the women's singles title she won at the Glasgow Games four years ago. Cyclist Eddie Dawkins came agonisingly close to gold in the men's 1000m time trial but had to settle for second after being pipped on the final ride of the night Australian Matt Glaezer. Natasha Hansen won New Zealand's eleventh track cycling medal of the Games with bronze in the keirin and Alana Barber won silver in the 20km race walk. And world shot put champion Tom Walsh laid down a marker in the qualification phase, setting a new Games record with his one throw - it was a massive 84cm over the previous record. He will go for gold tonight. Jo Edwards told RNZ reporter Bridget Tunnicliffe how she clawed her way back into her third Commonwealth Games gold medal.
