Homegrown festival warned of dangerous fake ecstasy drug

From Morning Report, 8:16 am on 20 March 2018

Wellington's biggest music festival, Homegrown, is being encouraged by experts to have testing available at next month's festival to screen for a dangerous drug being sold as ecstasy.

Police are seeing more of the drug N-Ethylpentylone, also known as bath salts, in Wellington, which hospitalised thirteen people in Christchurch and killed people overseas.

Groups like Know Your Stuff attend music festivals to test drugs, so people know what they are taking, but Homegrown organisers say police have advised them not to.
