Ngaruawahia mourns girl killed on bridge, town seeks solution

From Morning Report, 7:53 am on 20 March 2018

The Ngaruawahia community is rallying to support the family of an eleven-year-old girl killed on Sunday while playing on a train bridge across the Waikato River. A Givealittle page has been set up for the family of the girl of which funds will go towards a funeral and any other needs. The bridge is a popular spot for locals to jump from into the river and stopping people from climbing on it is a hard task - despite fences, cameras and threats of fines to deter them. Jack Ayers is a former Ngaruawahia community board member and met with the Waikato District Council last week to discuss solutions for the problem. He joins us with his reaction.
