China cracks down on building quality certificate

From Morning Report, 6:51 am on 16 March 2018

New Zealand has had a breakthrough on the issue of the quality of products coming from China. China has been cracking down harder at home since fire-prone cables with fake test certificates had to be ripped out of the city of Xian's shee-arn subway lines last year. The government department in charge of that now wants to see any dodgy certificates that turn up in New Zealand. The head of International Accreditation New Zealand Llew Richards says it's signficant - but there's a critical link missing in the chain because few importers of critical building products are getting the test certificates checked.
