Historic Mt Eden church hall a risk to public - engineer

From Morning Report, 6:39 am on 9 March 2018

An Auckland engineer is urging city officials to act quickly to ensure a derelict church hall is made safe and not a risk to the public. The historic hall in Mt Eden is owned by the Presybterian Church, which wants the council to evacuate neighbours and close part of a road and footpath. The council told the Church last week an independent engineer had said the building is not at imminent risk of collapse unless there's a significant earthquake. Another engineer, Oishin Frost, has made multiple checks on the hall for two years on behalf of a developer who wants to buy the land. He told RNZ's Phil Pennington he checked it again in October 2017.
