Thousands of Auckland homes on Airbnb

From Morning Report, 8:30 am on 8 March 2018

More than 12,000 Auckland homes have been used as visitor accommodation through the Airbnb website, and the council fears it could be affecting the rental market. New research by the council has found 1200 entire homes permanently rented out, in a fast-growing business worth an estimated $113 million. The figures are part of the first look at the impact of the home-sharing website, and may be the basis of new council charges on thousands of Airbnb providers. RNZ Auckland Correspondent Todd Niall has been looking through the report and talks details with Guyon Espiner.
