Seventy firefighters and 18 fire engines are battling a "very large" fire at Sims Pacific Metals in the Auckland suburb of Favona, near Ōtāhuhu.
The fire was reported just before 2am in a huge pile of shredded motor vehicles. Fire and Emergency's assistant area commander Barry Fox tells Alex Perrottet they've isolated the blaze, but there have been a few explosions as cannisters catch fire.
