Councillor fears water contamination at Whenuapai

An Auckland councillor wants assurances people living near the Whenuapai air force base haven't been exposed to toxic drinking water. The Defence Force has been testing its sites for traces of chemicals from fire-fighting foam and has confirmed water contamination around the Ohakea and Woodbourne bases. But it says its investigations at Whenuapai are at only a preliminary stage, despite it confirming what it calls signficant land contamination. Wayne Walker is the councillor for the Albany ward, which covers Whenuapai.
