Nelson Airport found using banned toxic foam
It's been discovered that the very first airport tested for a toxic firefighting foam has been discovered to be using it illegally. More than 600 litres of foam in firetrucks and storage at Nelson airport has tested positive as PFOS foam. It was banned in 2006 in New Zealand and dropped in the US in 2002 by a major manufacturer 3M after worrying research results. Nelson's mayor Rachel Reese doubts the council-owned airport will be the last to turn up positive in the tests. Nelson Airport's chief executive Rob Evans can't explain why no-one knew about the ban.
