Auckland bishop accepts woman is daughter of priest

From Morning Report, 6:14 am on 14 February 2018

The Catholic Bishop of Auckland says he now accepts that an Auckland woman is correct in saying her father was a serving priest who broke his vow of celibacy. Bishop Patrick Dunn says as far as he knows it is the first case of a priest's child being acknowledged in New Zealand. When interviewed on Morning Report on Monday, Bishop Dunn sais he was prepared to acknowledge the priest was the father, but it couldn't be proven beyond doubt. But after seeing more evidence from the woman, he says the matter is now beyond dispute. RNZ reporter Phil Pennington asked the bishop whether the church should have a process to deal with such cases, rather than leave it to individuals.
