Tributes paid to 1970s cricket captain Bevan Congdon

From Morning Report, 8:51 am on 12 February 2018

The former New Zealand cricket captain Bevan Congdon, who died at the weekend one day short of his 80th birthday, has been saluted as a key figure in the team's rise to world class level. New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said Congdon was at the centre of the team at a time it started gaining attention on the international cricket scene - and that was in no small part due to his leadership and ability. Batsman John Parker played in the New Zealand team under Bevan Congdon. He tells Susie Ferguson Congdon was a man of few words but he was the backbone of the team.
