Dunedin fire evacuees spend night away from home
Residents of Burnside will hear shortly if they will be allowed to return home. Up to 100 houses in Dunedin were evacuated on Wednesday after a huge fire swept through a timber yard, some industrial buildings and 25 hectares of trees in minutes. It narrowly missed igniting a building filled with gas canisters. At the height of the fire, six helicopters, 25 crews and about 100 personnel were fighting it. A Thursday morning briefing is underway at the St Clair Golf Club, and we cross to Chris Hawker from Civil Defence Otago.
