Electric cars: Growing sales hits road funding - AA
The Automobile Association says funding for roads will be severely depleted in coming years as more electric and fuel-efficient cars hit the road. Almost all of the government kitty for roading comes from charges and fuel-taxes paid by drivers of diesel and petrol vehicles. Electric vehicle users contribute little in comparison, sparking concern that more of them on the road will result in a major funding shortfall.
