Ohakea water contamination: 'No acute health risk' - Ministry

From Morning Report, 7:16 am on 26 January 2018

The Defence Force, the Health Ministry and the Ministry for the Environment all declined to be interviewed. The Health Ministry said in a statement there is no conclusive evidence that the chemical compounds will result in future health problems. It said there's also no acute health risk, and other evidence about health effects isn't clear. It added its approach is cautionary because the chemicals can accumulate in the body. Anyone worried could talk to their family doctor or contact Healthline on 0800 611 116. The Defence Force said its teams will call on all landowners who had water samples taken for testing to let them know the results and offer support. It's also offering bottled water to those affected.
