TPP: Māori call for clarity over Treaty of Waitangi clause

From Morning Report, 7:11 am on 25 January 2018

Some Māori are demanding greater clarity about how the revised Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will affect the government's Treaty of Waitangi obligations. Two years ago there were huge protests around the country when the first version of the TPP was signed. In Waitangi, the protests culminated in a sex toy being thrown at then Economic Development Minister, Steven Joyce. Yesterday we got confirmation that the new TPP deal, without the US, is expected to be signed by the remaining 11 countries in six weeks' time. Te Manu Korihi reporter John Boynton has been gauging the reaction of Māori to the news.
