America's Cup: Unclear if Wynyard wharf can work

From Morning Report, 7:50 am on 24 January 2018

A week out from the start of the planning approval process for Auckland's America's cup Village, the government's still not sure whether its alternative idea is a goer. Auckland Council's seeking approval to build eight bases across three wharves, but the government favours trying to focus more on the semi-industrial Wynyard Point. Minister for Economic Development David Parker says the planning process for the council's option may begin before he can decide whether the Wynyard option is worth pursuing. Mr Parker's also suggested a costly clean-up of decontaminated land might be needed. RNZ Auckland correspondent Todd Niall has been talking to him and joins Guyon Espiner with the details.
