America's Cup: Govt uncertain on Wynyard option

From Morning Report, 6:19 am on 24 January 2018

The government says it's still not clear whether an alternative plan to build America's Cup bases in Auckland will stack up. The Economic Development Minister David Parker has also suggested there could be significant de-contamination costs in the Wynyard Point option they prefer. The government hopes to house more of the bases on Wynyard Point, lessening the need for wharf extensions, which are part of Auckland Council's preferred option. A fuel storage company has offered in principle to move out of the way, to help the government plan. Another site vacated by Mobil left Auckland Council with a $50 million clean-up bill, and Mr Parker says that's well understood.
