Road toll rises 50 percent since 2013 road police cuts

Dedicated road police numbers have been slashed by nearly 100 officers since 2013, and there's been a 50 percent increase in the road toll over that time. The police association says road policing has been a victim of stretched funding, which has forced police to cut back on personnel in some key areas. Dave Cliff was the associate police commissioner with responsibility for road policing between 2012 and 2015. He now heads the Global Road Safety Partnership, based out of Geneva in Switzerland. He speaks with RNZ's Emile Donovan.
