The economic cost of shifting the vehicle import trade away from Auckland's downtown port could be as high as $1 billion. A report commissioned by the Auckland Council, but which it tried to keep secret, has found the costs of job losses, higher transport costs, and building facilities elsewhere, outweigh the benefits by about ten to one. Mayor Phil Goff has asked for the analysis to be done, but the report was given to RNZ News only after the Ombudsman intervened. RNZ Auckland correspondent Todd Niall has been chasing the report for months and joins us with the details.
