Government scraps National Standards
Schools are free to scrap National Standards next year, after the Government pulled the plug on the controversial reporting standards for reading, writing and maths. Introduced by National in 2010, the Education Minister Chris Hipkins says schools and parents have lost confidence in National Standards, calling them too narrow, and neither national nor standard. Martin Thrupp is a professor of education at Waikato University and joins us with his reaction.
