Auckland's iconic pohutukawa trees at risk before Christmas

From Morning Report, 7:53 am on 28 November 2017

Scientists say they have grave fears Auckland's iconic pohutukawa trees will fall victim to the creeping myrtle rust infection. Another case of myrtle rust has been found in the city, this time on ramarama plants in St Lukes. The Ministry for Primary Industries says ramarama and pohutukawa appear to be the most susceptible to the disease. Dr Catherine Duthie tells us it thrives in humid conditions, and urges anyone who sees myrtle rust to call MPI immediately on 0800 80 99 66.
