Porirua locals 'vindicated' by report on mentally ill escapee

Residents of a Wellington suburb say they've been vindicated by a report detailing failings in the mental health system that led to the attempted abduction of a three-year-old girl in Porirua. In March a mentally ill man who'd just been admitted to a crisis respite centre left without staff noticing and tried to grab the hand of a young girl as she walked with her father. There was a fight and he was charged with attempted abduction and assualt.
